The Yoruba Youth Assembly (YYA), a socio-cultural organization committed to the emancipation, unity, and advancement of the Yoruba race, has called on the Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, to remain focused and undistracted by what it described as politically motivated attacks from some individuals within his constituency.
In a statement issued to journalists, the Worldwide President of the Assembly, Hon. Olarinde Thomas alongside the Spokesman, Hon. ‘Jide Alofe, commended the Minister for his outstanding performance and urged him to continue supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the Assembly, the impact of Hon. Tunji-Ojo’s leadership at the Ministry of Interior is evident across key sectors. These include improved efficiency in passport processing, strengthened border security, enhanced visa administration, and notable youth empowerment initiatives. The Assembly noted that these achievements have earned the Minister widespread appreciation across Nigeria, describing him as a worthy ambassador of good governance and effective leadership.
The YYA further advised the Minister to disregard allegations and distractions, including claims relating to his academic credentials, which they stated have already been resolved. They emphasized that such accusations are the handiwork of disgruntled politicians and should not derail the Minister from delivering on his mandate.
The Assembly also called on the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to caution his appointees against making derogatory statements about the Minister. They described Hon. Tunji-Ojo as a man of peace, integrity, and honor who deserves support rather than unnecessary antagonism.
Additionally, the Assembly urged the Governor to focus on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Ondo State, stressing that no one is in competition with him for party leadership.
They advised the Governor to allow the Minister to concentrate on his national responsibilities, noting that the Minister’s performance should be a source of pride for the state rather than contention.
The YYA further reminded the Governor that Ondo State benefits from federal allocations and is a member of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). They expressed concern that the people of the state are yet to see sufficient tangible projects and infrastructural development commensurate with these resources. The Assembly called on the Governor to prioritize infrastructure, social amenities, and transparent governance, rather than engaging in political distractions.
In a firm warning, the Assembly stated that it would not take lightly any attempt to tarnish or distract the Minister from performing his duties, adding that any attack on Hon. Tunji-Ojo would be viewed as an attack on the collective dignity of the Yoruba people.
They further advised the Governor to draw lessons from past leaders such as Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and the late Governor Olusegun Agagu, who used their offices to promote unity and inclusiveness among public office holders, rather than fostering division. The Assembly emphasized that Hon. Tunji-Ojo is not contesting any leadership position and has no rivalry with anyone, urging the Governor to rely on performance as the true measure of leadership.
The Yoruba Youth Assembly concluded by once again appreciating the Honourable Minister for his exceptional service, particularly his commitment to youth empowerment and development, which they described as impactful and commendable.
