Non Sibi, Sed Aliis — Not for Ourselves, but for Others.
Leadership is more than ambition, political office or the pursuit of influence. At its finest, it is about using knowledge, experience and opportunity to improve the lives of others. This principle offers a useful lens through which to examine the aspiration of Hon. Adekunle Hafeez Ishola, popularly known as Ojuabere, who seeks to represent Ibadan North-West and Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in 2027.

With an academic background in Computer Science from the University of Lagos and a master’s degree in Cyber Security from Edith Cowan University, Australia, Ojuabere brings a professional background in technology to his political aspiration.

His proposed development agenda places emphasis on youth empowerment, digital skills, education, healthcare, food security, accountable representation and diaspora partnerships. These priorities reflect issues that matter to communities seeking greater opportunities, improved welfare and a stronger voice in governance.
Through the IDERA DE MOVEMENT Foundation, he is also reported to have supported vocational training and empowerment initiatives. Such activities, where documented, can provide useful insight into his approach to community development.

Yet, the true test of leadership extends beyond credentials, charitable activities and campaign promises. It lies in the ability to turn ideas into practical, measurable results.
If elected, Ojuabere would have the responsibility to represent his constituents effectively through legislation, oversight, advocacy and consistent engagement with the people. His proposed programmes would therefore need clear implementation plans, realistic targets and transparent reporting to demonstrate their impact.

The expression Non Sibi, Sed Aliis—“Not for Ourselves, but for Others”—is identified with Methodist Boys’ High School. It expresses an enduring principle of service, although its relevance to any political leader must ultimately be demonstrated through conduct and results.
As the 2027 elections approach, residents of Ibadan North-West and Ibadan South-West have an opportunity to examine Ojuabere’s experience, assess his proposals and decide whether his vision aligns with their aspirations.

Ultimately, leadership is not defined by what a candidate promises, but by what the people can verify, experience and benefit from.
Non Sibi, Sed Aliis. Not for Ourselves, but for Others.
Hon. Adekunle Hafeez Ishola (Ojuabere)
