A prominent Northern women\u2019s socio-political organization, Jam\u2019iyyar Matan Arewa (JMA), has appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to uphold and protect the senatorial mandate of Dr. Muheebah Dankaka, the APC candidate for Kwara South Senatorial District.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In a formal letter dated May 24, 2026, and addressed to the APC National Chairman through the party\u2019s National Secretary, the organization described Dr. Dankaka\u2019s victory at the APC senatorial primaries as \u201cconvincing and overwhelming,\u201d emphasizing that her emergence represents hope for greater female participation in Nigerian politics.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

JMA, which described itself as the foremost Northern women\u2019s association founded in 1963, noted that Nigeria currently has 109 senatorial seats, yet only three women emerged as APC senatorial candidates nationwide after the party primaries. According to the group, Dr. Dankaka was the only female candidate from Northern Nigeria to secure victory in the APC senatorial primaries.<\/p>\n

The organization warned against any attempt to undermine or substitute her candidacy, stating that such action would be viewed by Northern women as a disregard for their loyalty and contributions to the APC over the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny attempt to undermine or substitute her victory will be viewed by Northern women as a painful disregard for their loyalty, sacrifices, and contributions to the growth of the Party,\u201d the letter stated.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

JMA further highlighted the role Northern women played in grassroots mobilization and voter turnout during the APC\u2019s victories in the 2015, 2019, and 2023 general elections, stressing that the party must now demonstrate commitment to fairness, equity, and inclusion.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The group also called on the APC National Working Committee to intentionally create more opportunities for qualified Northern women in elective and appointive positions, especially in the Senate and other strategic offices.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to the letter, increasing female representation would strengthen the party\u2019s image as an inclusive political platform while deepening its support base across Northern Nigeria.<\/p>\n

The appeal was signed by the National President of JMA, Hajiya Rabi Musa Saulawa, and copied to several top political figures, including the Vice President of Nigeria, members of the APC National Working Committee, the APC Chairman for the North-Central Zone, the APC Chairman in Kwara State, and Dr. Muheebah Dankaka herself.<\/p>\n
